«Behind the scenes»-Information in german in Journal B:
http://www.journal-b.ch/de/082013/kultur/1691/Die-Oper-als-Ereignis-auf-dem-M%C3%BCnsterplatz.htm Krà£sis is a series of four video portraits of opera singers in monumental format in public space interpreting a baroque aria at the peak of passion. All four films are static shots that each last between four and eight minutes. They are projected simultaneously in a loop side by side on four exterior screens. The first encounter of the public will often be by chance and visually. Audio-stations in front of the screens and equipped with headphones provide the sound to each aria. The viewer can choose either to focus only on the vision of the four passions or add the voice of the singers and the music of the aria to the images.
Each portrait captures and amplifies the emotional exposure and vulnerability of the singer. Thus, the aria can express its full potential, unsettling and transforming. At first, the observer witnesses four isolated individuals on the edge of reason, caught in a moment of rare intensity. Then, coming closer, the quartet reveals itself. What appeared as separate images and distinct emotions starts to form a balanced system. The audience experiences the humanist theory of affects that baroque composers used to influence body and soul through music: the harmony of opposites, or Krà£sis.
