Maloja is a series about people who have been living in a remote mountain village for a very long time. It is a village where strangers just stop for a moment, walk or drive by. My aim was to catch the aspect of being rooted at a particular place. My reference were portraits of Rembrandt. While I was taking their portrait at their homes I asked these people as a favour to take pictures of their environment with a disposable camera. In taking pictures themselves they tried to show me why they decided to live in such a remote place. These images are shown alongside with the portraits.
